CRYSTAL SERENITY ITINERARY UPDATE: In Victoria on May 3rd, we will now be sailing at 4:00pm rather than 5:00pm. In San Francisco, we will be arriving at 10:00am rather than 8:00am and will sail at 4:30am on May 6th rather than 6:00pm on May 5th. Our arrival in Los Angeles ending our 2009 Crystal Serenity World Cruise will be as scheduled at 8:00am on May 7th. AS OF TODAY, OUR NUMBER OF VISITS TO THE ROBERTSON WORLD CRUISE BLOG SINCE JANUARY 21, 2009: 9,821 THE MAJESTIC MOUNTAINS AND SCENERY OF SEWARD ON THE KENAI PENINSULA
We docked this morning in Seward with a drizzle and a low hanging mist blanketing any kind of a view of what we knew was hiding.....the beautiful mountains supposedly surrounding us.
By noon, the clouds lifted and there they were .......... the majestic mountains of Seward!
We were surrounded by mountains with panoramic views from any place on the Crystal Serenity. Seward is a delight and Crystal was correct in planning a nice stay here allowing the evening shadows to appear before we sail at 9:00pm. These pictures are from the port side with a big commerical fishing boat in the foreground, a forward view including the dock area, and the small boat harbor and town of Seward on the starboard side.
It is interesting to note that this Kenai Peninsula in April (our current month) has the most rainy days, but the least amount of rainfall and in September, has the least number of rainy days, but the most amount of rainfall! Shall we say there is unpredictable weather up here....and confusing!
As explorers tried to find the Northwest passage, they came here often thinking this might be the way into the Artic, but time and time again, they knew they were not to be awarded the prize of the Northwest Passage. Many settled here, however, and this became another area with fishing the main industry.
OUR THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
"A misty morning does not signify a cloudy day."
