IN THE NORTH PACIFIC TOWARD THE INTERNATIONAL DATELINE
Since Yokohama, we have been moving our clocks ahead one hour each night! At this point, we are in a daze with re-entry starting to catch up to us! Tomorrow will be the completion of "re-entry" with the crossing of the International Dateline and the end of the time changes until we get out of Alaska.
Rex Ziak gave another outstanding talk this morning about the sea otter fur trade and how they considered the sea otter pelts as "soft gold". Rex's talk, "Alaska's Soft Gold and The First Global Economy" took us by way of his exquisite maps and unique use of "Post-It" colored markers, on a journey of the global trade route around the world from New England to the Orient and back, thanks to the little sea otter living in the coastal waters of Alaska.
The Crystal Plaza once again hosted a fabulous art gallery of collections from all over the world. The art available for purchase on Crystal is very impressive and now, approaching the end of the world cruise, we are seeing great savings opportunities with most of the art. Speaking of art, the permanent art on walls throughout the Crystal Serenity is exceptional and a great addition to the overall ambience of the ship.
This evening we were joined in the Asian restaurant, Silk Road, by our Santa Barbara friends, Barbara Benon and Susi Case plus Bob and Cheryl Froelich. Bob is a guest lecturer we had last year and returns to us again this year with his brilliant and energetic talks on finance. How timely! We look forward to Bob's first lecture on Saturday, our day at sea between Dutch Harbor and Kodiak Island.
We retire tonight and strap ourselves in for the time zone re-entry through the International Date Line!
OUR THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
"One of the secrets of a great life is to have more beginnings than endings".
